London is one of the most exciting food cities in the world. From Turkish grills to Vietnamese pho, the capital offers endless choice. But when it comes to Indonesian food — the kind cooked at home, with care and patience, the options are still surprisingly rare.

That’s where Bali Satay House quietly found its place.

We’re a small, family-run Indonesian restaurant in Barnet, North London, built around one simple idea: cooking food properly, the way it’s always been cooked, and welcoming people in as if they were guests in our own home.

🌿 How Bali Satay House Began

Bali Satay House didn’t begin as a business venture.

It began with a mother of two cooking.

During the COVID period, when everything felt uncertain and isolated, cooking became a way of caring for the local community.

At the same time, she was going through a divorce. A moment where it felt like there was very little to fall back on and everything was suddenly fragile.

With her back against the wall, food became the one constant she could rely on.

What started as a personal passion slowly turned into a service — a way of feeding people, checking in on them, and offering something warm and familiar during a difficult time.

In the middle of pain and uncertainty, cooking became purpose.

With the support of her children and family, that purpose eventually became Bali Satay House.

And it has stayed that way ever since.

Family-run, hands-on

and grounded in care.

Food That Comes From Home

Many of our recipes come directly from family kitchens in Bali, Java, and Sumatra, passed down from mothers and grandmothers who cooked long before restaurants were ever part of the picture.

Our Chicken Satay is grilled slowly and served with a rich, house-made peanut sauce.

Our Beef Rendang is cooked gently for hours until it becomes tender and deeply flavoured.

Our nasi goreng, nasi campur, and vegetable dishes are prepared the way they’ve always been — without shortcuts, without fusion and without trying to impress.

The goal has never been to reinvent Indonesian food.

It’s been to respect it.

🍛 More Than a Meal

From time to time, we host special evenings like our Island Nights. A chance to share more of Indonesian culture through traditional Balinese dance, music, and fashion.

These evenings aren’t performances for show. They're a way of bringing pieces of Indonesia to North London and inviting people to experience them together.

❤️ Why Guests Keep Coming Back

Over time, Bali Satay House has become a place people return to — not just for the food, but for how it makes them feel.

Some come for a quiet lunch.

Some for a relaxed date night.

Some with family and friends.

What they share is the desire for food that feels honest and a space that feels welcoming.

Don’t just take our word for it:

We’ve built a community of loyal diners who come for the food and stay for the atmosphere.

🔥 Our Secret Ingredient? Passion.

We started Bali Satay House to share our love for Indonesian cuisine with the people of London.

Every dish we serve is a reflection of our heritage, and every event is an invitation to celebrate culture, connection, and great food together.

Everything we serve is cooked fresh daily, using 100% halal meats and fresh ingredients sourced from trusted local suppliers. Whether you’re dining in, ordering takeaway, or joining us for a special evening, the intention stays the same.

We cook the way we would for our own family.

From Our Family to Yours

Bali Satay House exists because of one person’s love for cooking and a family’s belief that food is a form of care.

We’re grateful to everyone who has walked through our doors, shared a meal with us and supported a small, independent restaurant rooted in culture and community.

Whether you’re new to Indonesian food or grew up with these flavours, we’d love to welcome you.
